About Tuition Center
The tuition center in St. Alphonsus High School was initiated by The Seeds Foundation, when they found that the underprivileged children found it difficult to cope with their studies at home. Also, The Seeds Foundation in collaboration with Grace provides Educational assistance to the underprivileged children residing in Bagalur layout and Deshiya nagar (Lazar Road). The Bagalur layout tuition center was called Sagaya Madha Padipagham (SMP1) and The Deshiya nagar (Lazar Road) tuition center was called Don Bosco tuition center. There were a lot of challenges that these children faced, like struggling to do their home-works and continuing their studies at home. In St. Alphonsus High School, the tuitions were mainly conducted for students from class 8th to 10th. Classes started in the first week of July. Each class had almost 30 children. They used to stay back to do their daily home-work that was given during class hours. The classes used to start at 4:30 pm and end by 6:30 pm. The students really benefitted from these classes.
Revisions were taken before each examination and the teachers made sure that the students were thorough in their studies. A new system was started where the class leader had to write down the daily home-work and get it signed by their respective evening class teacher. Through these classes the grades of the children gradually improved. We also received positive response from the parents. The Seeds Foundation identified teachers from St. Alphonsus’s English Medium Primary School and Tamil Medium High School. When it came to paying the salaries for the teachers who volunteered to conduct these special classes, Rev.Fr.Anthony Samy, the parish priest of Holy Ghost Church came forward to take care of the expenses of this project for a year. A Christmas program was conducted on the 21st of December in St.Alphonsus’s School Auditorium where all the three tuition centers came together to celebrate. More than a 100 children were gifted with new clothes. The Sagaya Madha Padipagham (SMP1) tuition center, which is being funded by Provincial of Bangalore Alphonsian Society supports around 21childeren in giving them extra coaching from Std 1 to VII. The classes commenced from the 1st of July 2019 from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

Initially the teachers monitored the home-works of the children and later the students were given tasks such as to revise a module from the syllabus. Dictations, comprehension solving and other various activities were also conducted. A Personality program was conducted by Rev.Fr. Peter for 18 children in the month of July. Children’s day was celebrated on 14th November, 48 children participated in the program. Due to the pandemic of the Corona virus all the tuitions classes were called off from March, once the government announcement was made. The last tuition classes were conducted on 13-3-2020. A warm word of gratitude is extended to Rev Fr. John Mathew, the Manager and Correspondent of St. Alphonsus High School and Rev Fr.
